Living Coral
It’s that time again when Pantone reveals the Color of the Year! 2019 is the year of Living Coral (PANTONE 16-1546). This color sets an intention of vivacity and life. TM is excited to see how this color inspires companies and individuals over the course of the year.
Last year’s Ultra Violet (PANTONE 18-3838) was an absolute smash, but we’re excited to see this bright punch of color in design everywhere. The subtle mix of orange into a vibrant pink manages to be very outspoken while remaining demure. This color tickles hearts with its summery aura that evokes a wish to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef.
Celebrate Coral
Design is not only aesthetic – and neither is color. Creatives use a color’s symbolism, woven into the fabric of the color spectrum, to relay subliminal messages with purpose. Living Coral embodies this by offering a beautiful tonality with a harsh undertone of reality. Coral only looks so effervescent when it is alive.
Coral is a delicate structure. It requires temperate conditions to cultivate the algae it needs to survive. With the rising temperature of the ocean biome, there is an increase in coral bleaching. As the name suggests, life leaches to the coral, causing it to turn white in hotter-than-normal conditions. As we see this compounding and spreading over the years, our reefs are now at great risk of dying altogether. These reefs are amongst the most vibrant communities on Earth and contribute to our immense biodiversity.
Impact on the Design World
2019 is set to be a year of bright realization worldwide to not take for granted the perfection of nature, to embrace the vigor of life, and work to turn shortcomings into strengths.
Pantone is setting us up for a bright and colorful year with a swatch that inspires energy and movement. This dynamism is getting TM inspired to:
- Create with awareness and excitement
- Develop ourselves and our users
- Be mindful of the balance of life’s delicate nature
