Are your devices spying on you? In this week’s podcast, Jailyn and Morgan talk about new technology that was premiered at CES 2019 and the relevance of smart devices and voice search. They also discuss data privacy in the modern world and Samsung’s questionable partnership with Facebook.

CES News

The Consumer Technology Association’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is an annual trade show dedicated to showcasing new products and technologies within the consumer electronics industry. The 2019 show featured keynotes and conference program sessions, and plenty of exhibitors to showcase their latest and greatest product. While there were an abundance of exhibitors and products for attendees to view, the ones we kept seeing on the internet had a focus on babies and children.  Here is the interesting list of products we found and discussed within the podcast episode:

  • Monit smart diaper sensor – monitors your baby’s diaper’s fullness
  • Y-brush – vibrating toothbrush
  • GoSun  solar cooker
  • Bread Bot
  • Ulo – a home monitoring owl
  • Pibo – social robot “toy” gadget
  • Babeyes camera – recording surroundings from a baby’s viewpoint
  • Fravel suitcase – a suitcase with ears that move and a heart

Data Protection & Modern Privacy

Privacy is very important when it comes to the mobile device and other every device individuals know, but is sometimes taken for granted from some companies. We recently discovered that Samsung phone device users were unable to delete the Facebook app from their phone. As a direct violation of privacy, Jailyn and Morgan agree that individuals shouldn’t have to be limited to keep apps on their phone that they no longer want.

To protect your privacy, individuals should be aware of their device’s privacy policy, understand your devices’ privacy settings and set them accordingly to how you want them, and stay in tune with the news to learn developing stories.
