No, it’s not a joke. No, it’s not April 1st. Yes, this is real life.

For social media marketers, and specifically ones that are managing not only their company’s Instagram accounts, but also multiple accounts for clients, this is a dream come true. While Android users have been toying with this change for the past couple months, Instagram finally just announced (less than 24 hours ago) that Instagram version 7.15 for iOS and Android will allow the feature to be used on both operating systems.

Starting this week, you can quickly and easily switch between multiple accounts on Instagram! 🎉 Go to your profile settings to add an additional account. From there, tap your username at the top of your profile to switch between accounts. Once you have multiple accounts added, you’ll see your profile photo appear in places throughout the app so you can always tell which one you’re using at the moment. To learn more, check out Account switching will be available as part of Instagram version 7.15 for iOS and Android.

For social media junkies, logging in and out of Instagram in order to manage all of our respective accounts was just something we put up with. For years we begrudgingly, yet lovingly, made the required switch every single day. Now, this new feature will potentially revolutionize not only our personal and professional Instagram experiences. The only potential downfall? You can add up to 5 different accounts. Depending on how many clients’ accounts you manage, you still might need to do a little finagling.

Step by Step

  1. Go to your Instagram profile and select the gear icon iOS (iOs), or three stacked dots icon android (Android). They should be located in the top right corner of your profile.
  2. Scroll down and select “Add Account”
  3. Enter the desired username and password of the accounts you’d like to add

Now, in order to switch between the various accounts you manage:

  1. Go back to your profile
  2. Select your current username (located at the top of the screen)
  3. Then, select the account you’d like to switch to!

Pretty simple, right?

So, now that you’ve added 5 different Instagram accounts, you’ll want to make sure that notifications are only turned on for accounts you want to constantly receive notifications from. If you have even one popular Instagram account, I’m sure you can imagine what it’d be like multiplying your current number of notifications by 5 and being bombarded at all times of the day and night. Not cool.

To adjust your notifications:

  1. Go to your profile (yeah, again)
  2. Hit your specific icon (gear or stacked dots)
  3. Adjust your settings to whatever you want them to be!

Kick an Account to the Curb

What if you previously made a commitment to a client or account, and now you want to break up? Again. Simple. (Not like real life, am I right?)

  1. Go…back…to…your…profile
  2. Select the account you want to kick to the curb
  3. Tap your icon (gear/stacked dots)
  4. Scroll down, hit “Log out of [whatever the name is]” or select “Log out of All Accounts”

However, be careful! Selecting “Log out of All Accounts” will remove all of the accounts you’ve previously added. So, select wisely my friend.

After this the multiple account update, Instagram also added another feature we have been waiting for: Instagram Zoom! Let’s see what else they come up with this year.
