How many times have you tried to zoom in on a picture on Instagram, only to remember that you CAN’T? The HORROR!
Today, that all changes! Instagram is rolling out zoom as one of the last remaining experience improvements for its users. Per usual, it’s only available to iOS and will become available to Android users “in the coming weeks.” Android peeps – you’ll have to suffer a little longer; we’re sorry.
This new iOS feature allows users to zoom in on photos and videos, too! The ability is given both in the Instagram main feed, on Explore pages, and on profile pages. Simply pinch the photo, like you’d do in Facebook (or anywhere else, really), and zoom away.
Starting today, you can pinch to zoom on photos and videos in feed, on profiles and on Explore. Dive into an adorable puppy’s smile or into every detail of your friend’s new shirt. Over the past six months, you’ve seen many exciting changes come to Instagram, from a new icon to longer videos and even a new way to share everyday moments with Instagram Stories. And as things change, we’re still focused on improving the core parts of Instagram. Zoom is available today for Instagram on iOS. Zoom will be available on Android in the coming weeks.

This update comes soon after Instagram introduced Stories, to compete with the growing popularity of Snapchat. Instagram Stories have been well-received, both for personal and business use.
