Letter from the Prez!
Google Caffeine & Small Business
Last week's announcement about Google Caffeine created tremendous buzz in the search industry. I tested Google Caffeine and found that the new search does have an impact on organic listings.
When I searched the term "small business" to compare the differences between Google Caffeine and the current Google, most of the top organic listings were still on the first page, but the order of the listings changed. There was one website that was not listed on the first page of the current Google and on Google Caffeine it was listed number 3. These modifications are a good indicator that Google plans to change their algorithm.
"Google Caffeine could spell trouble for smaller websites that rely on search engines for a majority of their traffic," says Mark Fujii from College News. This means that small business owners and SEOs will need to tweak their strategies in order to stay competitive. Without knowing how the results will change when Caffeine is officially launched, it is hard to say what will impact your results. What most likely will be required is for websites to continue to be updated and improved in order to stay in the top results.
TM conducted their own test to see how Google Caffeine might affect organic listings of our clients. When we typed in keyword phrases it verified that all of our clients who are using our SEO services were listed higher or received the same as their current organic search listing on Google Caffeine. Keep in mind that this might not be entirely accurate, but it should be a good indicator of what could happen in the future. This is good news for TM clients because it indicates that we are on the right track with our SEO strategy and that our chances for continued success are better than most. This does not mean that we do not have to make any changes, but it may indicate we only need to make a few alterations for our clients to remain competitive using Google Caffeine. This is also a great opportunity for other TM clients to start using our SEO services.
The main objective with Google Caffeine is to develop a search that delivers the best comprehensive results and helps users make faster decisions. From what I have observed it will have an impact on small businesses online, whether it will be negative or positive is still unknown, but TM will be sure to keep you updated about news and information about Caffeine as more becomes available. Stay Tuned!
